TOUGH DAY AT KNOWLE

Another tough day in the triples league at Knowle saw Fry's come home with only 2 points. A 7 shot win on one rink and only losing another rink by 6 left the game tight, but Knowle comfortable won the third rink to take a 56-41 shot win. Scores: Rink 1: 19-12; Rink 2: 7-23; Rink 3: 15-21; Fry's 41-56 Knowle (2-10).

FRY'S TAKE FIRST WIN OF TRIPLES SEASON

Fry's ended a run of 6 games without a win in the Friday Triples League last week as they took 10 points against Begbrook Green. Two rinks restricted the visitors to 14 shots, scoring over 20 shots themselves. Begbrook won the third rink by 8 shots, but this not enough to overcome the deficit as Fry's came away 59-48 winners. Scores: Rink 1: 26-14; Rink 2: 21-14; Rink 3: 12-20; Fry's 59-48 Begbrook Green (10-2).

FRY'S MISS OUT LATE AGAINST LEADERS

League leaders Bradley Stoke 'A' visited Somerdale on a warm Thursday evening. A tight game ensued with Bradley Stoke mostly leading, but only by a couple of shots for most of the game. Key shots from Fry's kept the game tight until the closing ends when Fry's would take the lead. However, Bradley Stoke undid Fry's hard work as they quickly pulled it back. With Fry's not scoring in the last 5 ends, Bradley Stoke took all 10 points with a 48-38 scoreline. Scores: Rink 1: 15-17; Rink 2: 9-13; Rink 3: 14-18; Fry's 38-38 Bradley Stoke 'A' (0-10).

CLOSE CALL WITH ST ANNE'S PARK

Fry's put up a good fight but fell just short in week 6 of the Triples League. Fry's were able to take one rink by 7 shots, with another rink missing out by one shot. St Anne's won the third rink by 8 shots which saw them take a 43-41 win, with Fry's taking 2 points. Scores: Rink 1: 15-16; Rink 2: 10-18; Rink 3: 16-9; Fry's 41-43 St Anne's Park (2-10).

6 AT SEVERN VALE

Fry's returned to the winner's column in a tight encounter at Severn Vale 'A'. A warm night greeted the bowlers, but a slow green saw a mixed night from the visitors as Severn Vale took the early lead, with each team taking an early lead on rinks 1 and 2. Fry's would take the upper hand as rink 2 launched a comeback which saw Fry's take the lead. Fry's kept control of rink 1, but loose ends from rink 2 after drawing level and rink 3 saw Severn Vale get back into the game, setting up a close finish. With all three rinks on the last end at the same time, Fry's held a 1 shot lead on the scoreboards, but down on the rinks with the skips still to play. Rink 2 picked up a single and with 2 shots drawn by the skip on rink 3 gave Fry's a 4 shot lead. Rink 1 dropped a single giving Fry's a 49-46 win picking up 6 points. Scores: Rink 1: 19-9; Rink 2: 19-21; Rink 3: 11-16; Fry's 49-46 Severn Vale 'A' (6-4).

TOUGH NIGHT AGAINST OAKS

Begbrook Green Oaks found success at Fry's in the third game of the season. The visitors dominated on rink 1 and with rink 3 also not keeping up, Begbrook held a halfway lead. Fry's didn't give up, but Begbrook made the saves necessary to keep Fry's out of reach. Fry's only success came on rink 2 as they finished with a 5 on the last end to close the final scoreline to 40-46 with only 2 points from the night. Scores: Rink 1: 9-20; Rink 2: 19-11; Rink 3: 12-15; Fry's 40-46 Begbrook Green Oaks (2-8).

In the second of back to back home games, Page Park visited Somerdale. Fry’s put up a good fight on rink, only going down by 2 shots, but a loss of 8 and 18 shots on the other two rinks, Page Park took all 12 points.

WINNING START CONTINUES IN HOME OPENER

The second match of the Bristol and District League season saw last year's Division 3 runners-up St Anne's Park visit Fry's. A strong night for rink 2 set Fry's up well but with rinks 1 and 3 struggling, the gap closed up after the halfway mark. Fry's were able to reopen the gap thanks to more shots in the closing end on rink 2 and rink 3 overcoming their deficit. With the match and 6 points guaranteed, rink 3 went into the last end one shot behind. With the Fry's skips last bowl finishing as second shot, Fry's took the 2 shots required to take the rink and 8 points to sit joint top of the table. Scores: Rink 1: 12-19; Rink 2: 24-5; Rink 3: 13-12; Fry's 51-37 St Anne's Park (8-2).

WINNING START IN DIVISION 2

Fry's began the new Bristol and District League campaign in Division 2 following last year's unbeaten season in Division 3. The opening match saw Fry's travel to Henleaze 'A' who finished 3rd in Division 2 last year. Fry's have found success at Henleaze hard to come by in past years, but after a tight start, Fry's soon took the lead thanks to rinks 1 and 3, with rink 2 mostly trading singles. Past the halfway point, Henleaze threatened to get back into the match, but some big saves from Fry's skips limited the damage to keep Fry's ahead. The game took a late twist on rink 3 as Fry's dropped 5 shots on their penultimate end which saw Fry's down one on the rink. Unable to find the required shots, Henleaze took the 2 points. A strong finish on rink 1 sealed the match for Fry's and with rink 2 securing shot on the last end, Fry's took 8 points and a 47-36 win seeing them in 3rd in the early standings on their return to Division 2. Scores: Rink 1: 20-10; Rink 2: 12-9; Rink 3: 15-17; Fry's 47-36 Henleaze 'A' (8-2).
