DAMP END TO ST ANDREW'S FLOODLIT

The third game of the Bristol St Andrew's Floodlit League saw Fry's play promotion chasing Knowle. A tight start saw Knowle take a lead on rink 1, with Fry's edging ahead on rink 2. With rink 2 able to hold tight, rink 1 changed the jack length and almost pulled level before Knowle got the shot back and winning the remaining ends. With rink 2 still to finish, they held a sizable count which would have secured Fry's 2 points, but with Knowle's skip playing a forehand drive through a narrow gap in front with his last bowl, a solid contact saw the jack fly to the ditch and into several Knowle bowls to ensure Knowle took all 6 points with a 38-25 scoreline. Scores: Rink 1: 11-18; Rink 2: 14-20; Fry's 25-38 Knowle (0-6).

The end of league would be disappointing for Fry's. Being unable to raise a side for the game against Bradley Stoke, Fry's went into the last game needing 2 points in the game against bottom club Henleaze. Rain before the game and a dodgy forecast saw Henleaze elect not to play the game. Soon afterwards, the other 2 games were also cancelled. With all teams given 3 points, Fry's finished 5th in the table avoiding relegation.

1 LOSS, 1 WIN IN FLOODLIT LEAGUE OPENERS

Fry's had a mixed start to the Bristol St Andrew's Floodlit League. Playing in Division 2, Fry's played Avonvale in the first of five 2 rink matches. A strong Avonvale side took command on rink 2. A tight match on rink 1 meant Fry's could not pull back the deficit. With 4 points a formality for Avonvale, rink 1 came down to the last end, with Fry's needing 3 shots to win the rink. Fry's skip missed taking out Avonvale's shot bowl, only to take the jack back to the ditch, leaving Fry's with only a single shot as Avonvale took all 6 points from the 38-18 scoreline. Scores: Rink 1: 10-12; Rink 2: 8-26; Fry's 18-38 Avonvale.

The second match saw Fry's play Canford. Rink 2 got the better start for Fry's, with rink 1 unfortunate to find themselves behind early. Rink 1 gradually pulled themselves into the game approaching the halfway point. As the game neared the conclusion, rink 2 dropped 5 shots which closed up the rink and the overall game. Rink 2 held on to win by one shot. Rink 1 had edged into a lead, and closed the game out seeing Fry's home 34-29 with all 6 points going to Fry's. Scores: Rink 1: 15-11; Rink 2: 19-18; Fry's 34-29 Canford (6-0).

FRY'S KEEP SLIM HOPES ALIVE WITH BIG FINAL WIN

Fry's brought a disappointing Bristol and District League season to a close with fellow strugglers Canford travelling to a sunny but windy Somerdale. Fry's went into the game in the relegation zone, 6 points behind Canford who still have a game in hand due to last week's game against Ardagh being suspended due to the weather. The game saw a tight start with rink 1 storming out to a 20 shot lead in the first 7 ends. A slow start on rink 2 saw Canford grab a lead, with rink 3 tight. Rink 2 got some shots back, and with a back and forth encounter, but Fry's held the lead thanks to rink 1. Rink 1 continued to increase the lead, albeit at a slower rate, but a late surge from rink 3 as darkness fell dispelled any hopes Canford had to win the game. With the match sorted, attention turned to the rink points. With Fry's taking 4 points from rink 1 and 3, Canford limited Fry's scoring to 4 singles in the final 5 ends, which saw Canford take the final 2 points as Fry's recorded a 58-36 win, which leaves Fry's and Canford level on points with Fry's ahead on shots difference. Scores: Rink 1: 31-8; Rink 2: 10-16; Rink 3: 17-12; Fry's 58-36 Canford (8-2).

TRIPLES LEAGUE SUCCESS AGAINST AVONVALE

The latest game in the Triples League saw Avonvale travel to Fry's. A good day for the home side saw two rinks record victory. Avonvale took a comfortable win on the third rink, but this was not enough to overcome the deficit as Fry's took a 47-40 win along with 10 points. Scores: Rink 1: 20-8; Rink 2: 17-10; Rink 3: 11-22; Fry's 47-40 Avonvale (10-2).

FRY'S IN TROUBLE AFTER ANOTHER DEFEAT

Fry's were left in trouble following yet another pointless evening against bottom side Ardagh. A wet night made conditions tricky, with rink 1 struggling, conceding multiple shots on lost ends, and only managing mostly singles when they did win an end. This set the game up for Ardagh with other two rinks tight. Both rinks came down to the final end with Ardagh taking both rinks and a 52-37 win, leaving Fry's in a precarious situation with Fry's only having one game left. Scores: Rink 1: 12-25; Rink 2: 11-12; Rink 3: 14-15; Fry's 37-52 Ardagh (0-10).

ANOTHER DEFEAT AT KNOWLE

Fry's visit to Knowle 'A' saw a continuation of the poor run of results. Poor starts on rink 1 and rink 3 set Fry's behind, not helped by rink 2 narrowly missing out on shots early didn't help. By the halfway stage the game was almost done. Fry's were able to get some shots back, with rink 3 launching a comeback which would ultimately fall short as Fry's fell to a 42-68 defeat with no points gained gain. Scores: Rink 1: 13-19; Rink 2: 13-25; Rink 3: 14-24; Fry's 42-68 Knowle 'A' (0-10).

FRY'S REGAIN ALSOP AFTER SCARE

The annual Alsop Shield match against Keynsham took place at Fry's, with Fry's hoping to regain the shield that Keynsham won last year. The game started well for Fry's with 3 rinks pulling out a lead at the halfway stage. Keynsham fought back with some big counts, with rink 2 and 3 taking a lead, which would briefly give Keynsham the overall lead, only for Fry's to edge away again. As the game neared a conclusion, Fry's would pull way again with some big counts, with rink 3 coming to back to record a win, which saw Fry's wrap up a 95-75 win to regain the Alsop Shield. Scores: Rink 1: 29-9; Rink 2: 26-16; Rink 3: 26-25; Rink 4: 14-25; Fry's 95-75 Keynsham.

3 SIXES COST FRY'S

Victoria Park made a successful trip to Fry's as Fry's threw away another good position. Fry's held a lead heading into the final quarter, but with all rinks dropping 6 in quick succession, the game swung in Victoria Park's favour and with Fry's unable to recover, they only took 2 points from the 51-58 defeat. Scores: Rink 1: 22-20; Rink 2: 15-21; Rink 3: 14-17; Fry's 51-58 Victoria Park (2-8).

DOMINANT OLVESTON END CLARENCE HOPES

Following a walkover in the first round of the City and County of Bristol Clarence Davey Cup, Fry's travelled to Olveston in the second round. Olveston soon pulled away. With Olveston scoring regularly, heavy counts did nothing to help Fry's cause as Olveston pulled away to a 122-42 win. Scores: Rink 1: 13-34, Rink 2: 8-40; Rink 3: 14-22; Rink 4: 7-26; Fry's 42-122 Olveston.

FRY'S BANK 10 POINTS

After a run of 3 straight defeats, the Triples League side returned to winning ways with the visit of Bristol Greenbank. Despite losing one rink by 8 shots, Fry's were able to take a comfortable win with the second rink winning by 19 shots. With Fry's also taking the third rink, Fry's took 10 points and 56-40 win. Scores: Rink 1: 13-21; Rink 2: 29-10; Rink 3: 14-9; Fry's 56-40 Bristol Greenbank (10-2).

50 DOWN AT ST ANDREWS

A sunny night could not help Fry's in the trip to Bristol St Andrews 'A'. A capitulation from rink 1 and a slow start on rink 2 left Fry's far behind for the whole match. Only rink 3 provided Fry's some hope, but failing to score in the last 4 ends saw Bristol St Andrew's take the rink on a measure, Fry's last bowl just falling short. A 29-69 defeat with no points leaving Fry's with only 8 points in their last 5 games. Scores: Rink 1: 3-27; Rink 2: 11-26; Rink 3: 15-16; Fry's 29-69 Bristol St Andrews 'A' (0-10).

IN AND OUT OF WEDMORE PLATE

Fry's made the trip to Chew Stoke in the Somerset Bowls Association Wedmore Plate first round, in the first encounter between the two clubs since 2017. The home side started the brighter and would keep ahead to the halfway point, with Fry's keeping the door open. Fry's closed the game to within a couple of shots, but a few loose ends across the green let Chew Stoke take hold of the game which they would hold onto, despite Fry's picking up 11 shots on the final two ends. This only made the score look more respectable as Chew Stoke advanced 66-56. Scores: Rink 1: 15-19; Rink 2: 15-13; Rink 3: 12-15; Rink 4: 14-19; Fry's 56-66 Chew Stoke.

IMPERIAL REIGN IN TIGHT ENCOUNTER

Imperial hosted Fry's in a tight Triples League encounter. Fry's looked comfortable taking the win on 2 rinks, but with the third rink going very much in Imperial's favour, the difference on the third rink was enough to give Imperial a 2 shot victory with 4 points going to Fry's. Scores: Rink 1: 24-16; Rink 2: 17-14; Rink 3: 10-23; Fry's 51-53 Imperial (4-8).

BACK TO WINNING WAY AGAINST KEYNSHAM

After a run of three games without a point, Fry's looked to bounce back with a home match against second placed Keynsham 'A'. Fry's got the better start on rink 2, and with rinks 1 and 3 tight, Fry's took a lead into the halfway stage. After the halfway stage, Fry's gradually pulled away on rink 1 and saw a off a mid-game comeback from Keynsham on rink 2, with both rinks minimising dropped counts which gave Fry's an 8 shot lead with rink 3 two ends behind. A nervy penultimate end saw Fry's only drop 2 shots, with Keynsham surrounding the jack. This left Fry's 6 shots up with one to play. Keynsham put bowls in a threatening location, but Fry's held second bowl. With Keynsham missing the take out with their last bowl, Fry's sealed a 41-36 win with a much needed 8 points. Scores: Rink 1: 15-10; Rink 2: 20-9; Rink 3: 6-17; Fry's 41-36 Keynsham 'A' (8-2).

2 DEFEATS IN A ROW IN TRIPLES LEAGUE

Severn Vale made the trip to Somerdale in the Triples League. Two rinks were close, with Fry's taking both rinks by a combined 8 shots, leaving the third rink to decide the match. A strong performance from the visitors saw Severn Vale take the rink by 15 shots, giving Severn Vale a 50-43 win leaving Fry's with 4 points from the match. Scores: Rink 1: 17-13; Rink 2: 6-21; Rink 3: 20-16; Fry's 43-50 Severn Vale (4-8).

POINTLESS STREAK EXTENDS TO 3

Fry's had a night to forget in their trip to Henleaze 'A'. The home side got the early lead and continued to pull away as Fry's struggled to get on the scorecards. despite some close attempts. Any late hopes Fry's had of earning something from the game were dashed as Henleaze took all 10 points 74-34. Scores: Rink 1: 12-23; Rink 2: 9-30; Rink 3: 13-21; Fry's 34-74 Henleaze 'A' (0-10).

COUNTY CUP DEFEAT

The opening round of the Somerset Bowls Association Turnbull Cup saw Fry's travel to Paulton. Paulton maintained the upper hand, thanks to a strong performance on rink 4. Fry's kept in touching distance on rinks 2 and 3, but Paulton would pull away in the second half. Rink 1 offered some reisistance, taking Fry's only rink win. This would not be enough to overcome the deficit as Paulton took a 68-51 victory. Fry's now go into the Wedmore Plate with a first trip to Chew Stoke since 2017 on Tuesday 16th July. Scores: Rink 1: 19-11; Rink 2: 13-16; Rink 3: 10-18; Rink 4: 9-23; Fry's 51-68 Paulton.

POINTLESS AT PAGE PARK

ALL 16's AS BIG COUNTS COST AGAIN

The second half of the Bristol and District League season began with Fry's welcoming league leaders Olveston Kestrels. Despite a decent start, Olveston would go ahead at the halfway stage. Fry's pulled their way back in touching distance, with rinks 1 and 2 remaining close. Rink 3 had fallen behind at the halfway stage, but started to reel in the visitors. As the game neared a conclusion, Olveston opened the gap once again, picking up 5 shots on a single end on rink 1, shortly followed by rink picking up 8 shots on the penultimate end, saw Fry's hopes of points dashed. Rink 1 recovered falling 1 short of the 4 shots required on the final end. Olveston saw off the comeback on rink 3 as they took a 66-48 win with all 10 points. Scores: Rink 1: 16-17; Rink 2: 16-25; Rink 3: 16-24; Fry's 48-66 Olveston Kestrels (0-10).

COMFORTABLE WIN OVER VICTORIA PARK

A strong display in the Triples League in the home game against Victoria Park (Bristol) saw Fry's take a maximum 12 points. All rinks won comfortably with Fry's putting up 60 shots to Victoria Park's 36. Scores: Rink 1: 18-9; Rink 2: 20-11; Rink 3: 22-16; Fry's 60-36 Victoria Park (Bristol) (12-0).

BIG COUNTS COST FRY'S

A trip to Canford rounded out the first half of the Bristol and District League season. Canford took the upper hand on rinks 2 and 3, but Fry's countered on rink 1 with them taking a comfortable early lead. Rink 2 edged back the early deficit which left the game close. With rink 3 still struggling, rink 2 would also fall behind, giving up big counts which gave Canford a bigger advantage. Rink 3 finally got going pulling some shots back; rink 2 would also look to comeback into the game, but Canford mostly saw off the threats. The game was heading towards an 8-2 points score to Canford, but any hopes Fry's had of a late surge were dashed when rink 1 dropped 12 shots in the final 3 ends, including 7 when 5 up on the final end. Rink 2 were unable to finish of the comeback, leaving Fry's a disappointing 0 points from the 66-51 defeat. Scores: Rink 1: 18-20; Rink 2: 20-25; Rink 3: 13-21; Fry's 51-66 Canford (0-10).

8 POINTS FROM KNOWLE ENCOUNTER

The tenth game in the Friday Triples League saw Knowle travel to Somerdale. Two rinks were close with Knowle taking them by 1 shot and 3 shots. The third rink was different as the home side took a 13 shot win which saw Fry's take the overall win 54-45 with 8 points. Scores: Rink 1: 16-17; Rink 2: 15-18; Rink 3: 23-10; Fry's 54-45 Knowle (8-4).

TRIPLES SUCCESS AT BRISTOL

A trip to Bristol awaited Fry's in the Triples League. A tight start saw Fry's take the lead on rinks 1 and 2, but Bristol would have a strong start which left the game tight until halfway. Fry's then opened up a lead with rink 3 scoring 11 in the space of 3 ends, which brought them back into the game. Strong counts from rinks 1 and 2 opened up the overall lead for Fry's. This would prove pivotal for Fry's as they would not relinquish that lead, seeing out the game 57-46 taking 10 points with rink 3 not quite able to grab the victory. Scores: Rink 1: 17-12; Rink 2: 21-13; Rink 3: 19-21; Fry's 57-46 Bristol (10-2).

ANOTHER 10 FOR FRY'S

Canford the venue, Ardagh the opposition in Fry's seventh game of the Bristol and District League, following Ardagh's problems at Horfield Common. A tight start saw Fry's edging ahead, with rink 1 extending the lead over the hosts. Rinks 2 and 3 were much closer, with Ardagh grabbing leads which left the game in the balance around the halfway point. Rink 1 continued to pull away, dropping only singles for the second week in a row, giving Fry's a strong position to take the win. Rink 2 were able to pull out a small lead after falling behind at the halfway stage. With Fry's 3 shots ahead going into the last end, Ardagh held the tying shots, but a good draw from Fry's number 3 was enough to secure a 4 shot win. Rink 3 pulled back in the closing ends, finding themselves 2 shots up heading into the last end. A couple of good draws put Fry's in a strong position. With Ardagh's skip only managing to remove their own bowl, Fry's took 3 shots to round off another 10 point night with a 53-33 shot win which sees Fry's sit 3rd heading into their bye week. Scores: Rink 1: 18-7; Rink 2: 15-11; Rink 3: 20-15; Fry's 53-33 Ardagh (10-0).

CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH LEAGUE LEADERS

Fry's hosted last year's champions and current league leaders St Anne's Park. The game would be a close one, with Fry's taking a rink by 5 shots and St Anne's taking another rink by 7, it was left to the third rink to settle the game. St Anne's would take that rink by 2 shots, giving them a 48-44 win, leaving Fry's taking only 2 points from the match. Scores: Rink 1: 17-12; Rink 2: 23-20; Rink 3: 13-20; Fry's 44-48 St Anne's Park (2-10).

FRY'S DOMINATE LEADERS KNOWLE

League leaders Knowle 'A' had a tough night on their visit to 6th placed Fry's. Fry's took very early leads on rinks 2 and 3 which were never relinquished. Knowle took the early lead on rink 1, but it didn't last as Fry's soon played themselves into a lead of their own. Fry's held the overall lead at the halfway stage, but were to extend the lead further as rink 3 scored 12 unanswered shots in 5 ends. Rink 2 added 12 shots winning 8 of 9 ends, conceding only 2 which helped them to a 10 shot lead. Rink 1 was a tighter contest, with Fry's able to keep the board ticking over, extending their lead to 5 shots with 4 ends to play. Rink 3 was a formality for the home side as Fry's would only concede 5 singles in a composed display setting up the match for Fry's. Rink 1 held onto their lead, with the big shots made to keep themselves 1 shot ahead going into the final end. Fry's lead got a bowl in the head, but Knowle surrounded the head with 6 bowls. After Fry's played a blocker, Knowle's skip played a bowl up into the jack, sending the jack into empty space with Fry's just holding shot with a back bowl. Fry's skip drew an insurance shot giving Fry's another 2 points. Rink 2 saw Knowle add 4 shots in the last 3 ends, but this would not be enough to overcome the 10 shot deficit, as Fry's took home all 10 points from the 54-27 victory. Scores: Rink 1: 17-14; Rink 2: 14-8; Rink 3: 23-5; Fry's 54-27 Knowle 'A' (10-0).

FRY'S GIVE UP LEAD IN LLOYD TROPHY

Rain of varying intensity greet the bowlers in the preliminary round of the Bristol and District League Lloyd Trophy as Fry's made the trip to Bristol St Andrews. Despite the weather, Fry's started the brighter with rinks 1 and 2 giving Fry's a comfortable lead at the halfway stage. Rink 3 were holding on after struggling to get going, but managed to stay in touching distance. The game turned after the halfway point as Bristol St Andrews started to get back into the game, significantly reducing the deficit. The gap continued to close as Fry's came close on several ends, but couldn't find the crucial shots. The game went to Bristol St Andrews after big counts on the final 3 ends on rink 3, which left the other two rinks too much to do as Bristol St Andrews took a 55-43 win to advance to the next round. Scores: Rink 1: 18-18; Rink 2: 19-12; Rink 3: 6-25; Fry's 43-55 Bristol St Andrews.

LATE COMEBACK GIFTS FRY'S WIN

A late comeback set up a dramatic final end in Fry's Bristol and District League match against bottom club Victoria Park. After an even start, Victoria Park started to pull away with rink 1 doing the damage for the home side. Victoria Park pulled even further ahead after the halfway mark as rink 3 added 9 unanswered shots. Rink 2 had edged ahead but was not enough as Victoria Park held a healthy lead. Heading into the final quarter, rink 2 scored 9 shots in 3 ends with a 4 and 5 which closed the gap, but still left Fry's a 10+ shot margin with the ends ticking away. The game would head into the dramatic finale. Despite their struggles in the second half, rink 1 took 3 shots on their final end, just missing out on more shots, closing the gap to 6 shots with 3 ends left to finish. Rink 3 was next to finish. After finding themselves 9 shots back with 3 to play, a good final end saw them pick up 5 shots, capping off 8 shots in the final 3 ends, which along with Fry's dropping 1 shot on the penultimate end on rink 2, Fry's faced a 2 shot deficit with one end left, but with the rink points safe, they could go after the overall win. Victoria Park gained the upper hand early with the lead finding a front toucher and resting on the jack. It didn't stay long as Fry's number two played a precision shot which knocked the shot bowl to the side with Fry's bowl staying in for shot. Victoria Park, packed in bowls to the left of the jack, but couldn't grab the shot, leaving Fry's with one shot with the skips left to play. Victoria Park's skip played first, but only managed to knock a short Fry's bowl into the head giving Fry's the tying second shot. Fry's opted for back cover with their skip's first bowl, leaving two bowls left. Victoria Park's final bowl was in the area, but with not enough weight, only pushed Fry's second bowl into the jack, moving the jack into the waiting Fry's bowls, gifting Fry's the required 3 shots to take the overall win 47-46 with 6 points seeing Fry's jump to 6th in the table. Scores: Rink 1: 11-21; Rink 2: 21-9; Rink 3: 15-16; Fry's 47-46 Victoria Park (6-4).

FRY'S TAKE DERBY HONOURS

Fry's welcomed local rivals Keynsham in the latest round of the Friday Triples League. The game turned into a close contest with Keynsham taking on rink by 14 shots, but strong performances from Fry's on the other 2 rinks was enough to overcome the deficit seeing Fry's home by a score of 55-51 taking 10 points from the encounter. Scores: Rink 1: 25-15; Rink 2: 19-11; Rink 3: 11-25; Fry's 55-51 Keynsham (10-2).

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL NIGHT FOR THE UNSTOPPABLES

Following on from last season's successful visit of The Unstoppables learning disabilities group, Fry's hosted them again on Tuesday 14th May. The group were split into 5 rinks, with each rink playing a match against another team and a prize on offer for the highest scoring team. With assistance provided by club members, the group soon got the hang of things. Following the games, two spiders were held with participants standing in a circle and bowling

simultaneously towards a spider; nearest bowl is the winner. Winning the honours this year were Becky for the second year in a row and Dan picked up the prize in the second spider. Following the on green activities, hot dogs and cake were available in the clubhouse, courtesy of club members and other community members. After another successful event, we look forward to hosting The Unstoppables on their next visit.

FRY'S SEE OFF RAIN IN FIRST WIN

The heavy rain which fell at the green 45 minutes before Fry's fourth Bristol and District Bowls League of season against Bristol St Andrews 'A' relented by game time as Fry's looked to pick up their first win of the season. The rain made the green wet to spice things up, as rinks 1 and 2 got off to a fairly even start. Fry's would soon pull away, thanks to rink 3 steadily picking up shots in the early ends. Good shots from Fry's skips on rink 1 and 2 saw Fry's pick up 5's on both rinks, with rink 1 backing that up with a 4 on the very next end as the game reached halfway. Fry's would take a good lead into the second half of the game, but Bristol St Andrews would look to close the gap, with all rinks closing in on Fry's. The deficit on rink 3 closed to a single shot with 2 ends left, but Fry's finished the job with a single, followed by 4 shots on the final end giving Fry's more breathing space in the overall match. Bristol St Andrews tied rink 2 heading into the final end, but again Fry's completed the job with 3 shots handing Fry's the match. Rink 1 had dealt in two's on the final 8 ends, but it would be Fry's maintaining their margin as Fry's picked up all ten points from the 57-39 win. Scores: Rink 1: 23-14; Rink 2: 16-13; Rink 3: 18-12; Fry's 57-39 Bristol St Andrews 'A' (10-0).

TRIPLES LEAGUE ROUND UP

The opening month of the Friday Triples League proved to be a successful one with Fry's picking up 3 wins from the opening 4 games picking up 34 points in the process. The good run came to an end last week during the visit to Begbrook Green. Two rinks proved to be close, with Fry's narrowly missing out, but rink 1 was the difference maker in the game, with Begbrook taking the rink 26-10 and all 12 points in the 19 shot win. Scores: Rink 1: 10-26; Rink 2: 13-14; Rink 3: 16-18; Fry's 39-58 Begbrook Green (0-12).

PERFECT 20 FOR KEYNSHAM

Fry's went home pointless for the second consecutive week against Keynsham 'A'. A strong start from Fry's on rinks 1 and 2 looked to set Fry's up well, but a counter from Keynsham on rink 3 left the game tight heading towards halfway. Fry's launched a comeback on rink 3, but Keynsham took the upper hand on rink 1, with rink 2 also taking over the lead. Rinks 2 and 3 couldn't close out to gain the extra points, with Keynsham 'A' taking all 10 points with a scoreline 37-60. Scores: Rink 1: 8-20; Rink 2: 17-20; Rink 3: 12-20; Fry's 37-60 Keynsham 'A' (0-10).

POINTLESS IN HOME OPENER

Fry's night on the green reflected the weather as the home opener went the way of visitors Henleaze 'A'. Rink 1 struggled to get going with Henleaze pulling out to comfortable lead. The story on rink 3 was similar with Henleaze adding further to the overall score. Rink 2 was a tighter contest giving Fry's some hope. After the halfway point, rink 1 were able to pull some shots back, but Henleaze kept that to a minimum preserving the lead. Rink 3 pulled to within 3 heading into their final end, but Fry's were unable to find the required shots. A tight penultimate end on rink 2 went the way of Henleaze leaving Fry's needing 6 to tie on the final end. Henleaze picked another 2 shots leaving Fry's pointless from the 36-58 defeat. Scores: Rink 1: 14-24; Rink 2: 10-18; Rink 3: 12-16; Fry's 36-58 Henleaze 'A' (0-10).

KESTRELS SOAR ON OPENING NIGHT

The opening night of the Bristol and District League Division 2 season saw Fry's make the long trip out to newly promoted Olveston Kestrels. The night saw Olveston take the early advantage with rink 2 opening out a lead over the visitors. Fry's countered on rink 3, however, dropping two 4's in the early ends on rink 1 did Fry's no favours. Olveston held a good lead at the halfway stage, with rink 1 having further extending their lead. The game would close up with rink 1 picking up 11 shots in two ends which saw them retake the lead and see Fry's close the overall gap. Despite Fry's efforts on rink 1 and rink 2 pulling shots back, Olveston would see out the game. The drama wasn't over, as rink 1 battled over the rink points. Fry's held a one shot lead with both skips to bowl their final bowls. With Olveston holding shot, Fry's skip attempt to sit Fry's second bowl down, but would run slightly heavy meaning the slight contact on the bowl was not enough. Olveston's skip would fall 2 feet short, ensuring the points were shared with Fry's taking home 3 points from the 48-54 defeat. Scores: Rink 1: Drew 18-18; Rink 2: Lost 12-27; Rink 3: 18-9; Fry's 48-54 Olveston (3-7).
