ROY COCKING TRIBUTE

Roy joined the Company [Cadbury's] in 1966 at the age of 25, working as a Fitter mainly on Shells Plants, 1 Floor D and 2B Bindler. Two of his earlier Managers were Bill England and Norman Marsh. All of Roy's 34 years at Somerdale was as a Trades Fitter and during his latter years worked under the Management of Ray Firth, working as Ray's leading hand. Roy was an excellent Fitter and was very highly respected by his Managers and also his close working colleagues. As many of his colleagues can confirm Roy had a very pleasant personality with a great sense of humour and was very well liked by those who had the pleasure of working and knowing him. Roy was certainly one on the Somerdale Characters and will be sadly missed by them all.

During his years at Somerdale Roy took a very active part in the life of Fry Club and particularly Bowls. I am greatly indebted to Roy's son, Steven ,who many may remember also worked at Somerdale for some while on the Trades side, who has very kindly written a full and excellent account of Roy's outstanding record of achievements as a member of Fry's Bowling Club and with a little added information is written as follows.:-

On joining Fry's Bowling Club in the mid 1970's Roy became one the most successful bowlers in the Clubs history, winning his first club title in1976 in the pairs competition with fellow member and Club Stalwart Brian Hill. Roy's first of many single successes came the following year in 1977 in the Handicap and Two Wood. This followed in 1979 with the winning Club Championship. This was the start of a stellar career which saw Roy win 2 triples and 4 pairs competitions,4 Two Woods,6 Handicaps and 7 Championships. This very impressive run of success culminated in a triple crown in 2006 add in a further triple in the Championship and Two Woods in 2007.

Away from the Fry's competitions, Roy won the Weston- Super- Mare Triples in 1987 and the Knowle Open Triples in 2006. In 1985 Roy won the Somerset Bowls Association Hon, Secretaries Singles, which was Fry's only County success. Roy served Fry's Bowls Club as Secretary between 1979 -1983 and Vice -Chairman from 2011-2021 and was elected as a Life Member of the Club in 2006. During his time as Secretary he also represented the Bowls section on the Fry's Club Management Committee.

Roy was married to Jean and in December 2023 they celebrated their 61st Wedding Anniversary. They had 3 Children ,sons Steven and David and daughter Deborah.

On behalf of all the Somerdale Pensioners, his former work colleagues and his many friends at Somerdale we extend our sincere and deepest sympathy to Jean and the whole family on their loss of truly a really lovely man and a true gentleman.

It is with regret and sadness that Fry's Bowling Club report the passing of former Cadbury's employee and Life Member Roy Cocking at the age of 82. The club's thoughts are with Roy's family and friends at this sad time.

An obituary will be uploaded in due course.

TOUGH TRIPLES FINAL FOR FRY'S

The final of the Triples League Cup saw Fry's take on league winners St Anne's Park at Severn Vale. St Anne's Park took an early lead and controlled the game from there. Scores: Rink 1: 12-19; Rink 2: 9-31; Rink 3: 18-10; Fry's 39-60 St Anne's Park.

DISAPPOINTING END TO LEAGUE SEASON

The final game of the Triples League season saw Page Park visit Somerdale. It would a disappointing finish for the home side. Despite 2 rinks winning, Page Park would take the third rink which would see Page Park take a 3 shot win. That brought an end to a successful first league campaign for Fry's, winning 11 games with 142 points seeing Fry's finish 5th in the table. Scores: Rink 1: 16-11; Rink 2: 11-26; Rink 3: 18-11; Fry's 45-48 Page Park (4-8).

BACK TO BACK WINS FOR FRY'S

A trip to Severn Vale was the penultimate match of the Triples League season. The game would follow the previous week, with Fry's giving up 2 rinks, but with Severn Vale only narrowly taking the rinks, Fry's would have enough of lead on the third rink to take the match 51-46. Scores: Rink 1: 14-15, Rink 2: 13-18; Rink 3: 24-13; Fry's 51-46 Severn Vale (8-4).

SINGLE SHOT OVER IMPERIAL

A rearranged game at Imperial saw a tight game decided by a single shot. Imperial took 2 rinks, but the third rink would be comfortable for Fry's which was enough to overcome Imperial by a single shot. Scores: Rink 1: 14-16; Rink 2: 23-8; Rink 3: 7-19; Fry's 44-43 Imperial (8-4).

LEADERS ST ANNE'S IN CONTROL

A tough home game in the Triples League against leaders St Anne's Park saw only 2 points for Fry's. With 2 rinks struggling, St Anne's always looked like taking the win. Scores: Rink 1: 15-24; Rink 2: 14-26; Rink 3: 18-13; Fry's 47-63 St Anne's Park (2-10).

Rink 1 went to Victoria Park which gave 2 points, which was enough to see them take 4th place by a single point from Fry's. Scores: Rink 1: 13-17; Rink 2: 17-12; Rink 3: 21-10; Fry's 51-39 Victoria Park (8-2).

Keynhsam 'A' and Bristol St Andrews 'A' came down from Division 1. After Olveston Kestrels ran away with Division 3, a dramatic night saw Canford take the final promotion spot. With Canford having completed all their games prior to the final week, Begbrook 'A' needed a single point for promotion. However, a 10-0 defeat to Begbrook 'B' saw Canford promoted on shots difference.

FRY'S REACH TRIPLES CUP FINAL

The Semi-Final of the Triples League Cup saw Fry's meet local rivals Keynsham on neutral territory at Severn Vale. A tight high scoring game saw Fry's come away with a 55-51 win, seeing them reach the final on Friday 15th September where they meet St Anne's Park at Severn Vale.

TIGHT WIN AGAINST BEGBROOK

The good run of form continued with a home match against Begbrook Green, but this would be a much closer encounter. With honours shared on the first rink, the other 2 rinks would decide the match. With Fry’s winning the third rink by 5 shots, Begbrook could only take the second rink by 2 shots, seeing Fry’s take 9 points as the season heads into the final few games. Scores: Rink 1: 19-19; Rink 2: 11-13; Rink 3: 20-15 Fry's 50-47 Begbrook Green (9-3).

6 POINTS AGAINST SEVERN VALE

A tight game with promotion pushing Severn Vale ‘A’ saw Fry’s run out victors. 2 rinks remained tight, with Severn Vale ‘A’ taking both of those rinks, but a combined 5 shots. Scores: Rink 1: 25-12; Rink 2: 10-12; Rink 3: 10-13; Frys 45-37 Severn Vale ‘A’ (6-4).

KEYNSHAM RETAIN ALSOP SHIELD

8 POINTS AT BRADLEY STOKE

A trip to Bradley Stoke was the latest encounter for Fry's in the Bristol and District League. Fry's dominated on rink 3, but the other two rinks remained close. Rink 2 struggled throughout the night and fell away at the end. With the match secure, Fry's went into the final end on rink 1 4 shots up, but a poor end saw Fry's sitting a precarious position. Fry's skip was able to promote a bowl cutting the count to 2 shots, giving Fry's 8 points from the 51-38 win. Scores: Rink 1: 15-13; Rink 2: 10-19; Rink 3: 26-5; Frys 51-38 Bradley Stoke (8-2).

ANOTHER POOR NIGHT IN CLARENCE

Fry's went out of the City and County of Bristol Clarence Davey Plate to the hands of Victoria Park. Fry's fell behind early with 3 rinks struggling. Fry's were able to claw some ground back on rinks 1 and 2, but a dominating performance from Victoria Park set up the win, the other rinks unable to pull the deficit back, seeing Fry's out of the 4's cups for 2023. Scores: Rink 1: 16-18; Rink 2: 15-17; Rink 3: 11-18; Rink 4: 6-27; Fry's 48-80 Victoria Park.

FRY'S DOMINATE FOR TWO IN A ROW

Fry's made it two wins in a row in the Triples League with a dominating performance against Bristol Greenbank. Winning all 3 rinks, Fry's came away with a big 81-42 win with 8 points. Scores: Rink 1: 28-11; Rink 2: 26-16; Rink 3: 27-15; Fry's 81-42 Bristol Greenbank (12-0).

FRY'S COMFORTABLY SURVIVE FOR 10

Fry's welcomed bottom club Imperial to Somerdale Thursday night. Fry's were soon able to pull away, but Imperial put up more fight than previous matches at Somerdale. Despite this, Fry's were able to pull away to comfortable 59-34 win, but the 10 points were in the balance, with a poor second half from rink 2 saw them holding on to their lead. Things went the way of the home side seeing Fry's take all 10 points. Scores: Rink 1: 23-12; Rink 2: 16-13; Rink 3: 20-9; Fry's 59-34 Imperial (10-0).

TRIPLES EARN FIRST WIN SINCE MAY

Fry's got their first Triples League win since May with the visit of Victoria Park. A close game saw both teams with a rink winning comfortably, but Fry's took a single shot win on the third rink, seeing Fry's take 10 points from the 50-47 win. Scores: Rink 1: 10-19; Rink 2: 24-13; Rink 3: 16-15; Fry's 50-47 Victoria Park (10-2).

FRY'S SOMERSET CAMPAIGN ENDS

Fry's travelled to Norwest for the Somerset BA Wedmore Plate. A strong night on rink 2 continued through the night, but Norwest were stronger on rinks 1 and 3 leaving Fry's on the back foot. A tight game on rink 4 meant Fry's were always behind. A late attempt to gain the shots back in the closing ends fell short as Norwest took a 75-60 win seeing Fry's out of the Somerset competitions. Scores: Rink 1: 10-26; Rink 2: 26-10; Rink 3: 9-23; Rink 4: 15-16; Frys 60-75 Norwest.

FRY'S MISS OUT IN LOW SCORER

A battle of the mid table teams saw a tight low scoring with Fry's visit to Henleaze 'A'. After a close start, Fry's looked to have the upper hand, but all the while Henleaze kept in touching distance. Rink 2 went the way of the home side, but Fry's held leads on rinks 1 and 3. Rink 1 would prove a turning point as Henleaze racked up consecutive scoring ends, with Fry's minimizing the counts, but unable to find the shot. This lead to close finish with each club taking a rink, the game came down to Fry's 3 behind overall, but tied on the rink. A conservative end saw Fry's pick up a single shot, which gave Frys 4 points from the 37-39 loss, seeing Fry's sit fifth in the table heading into the off week. Scores: Rink 1: 13-12; Rink 2: 11-20; Rink 3: 13-7; Fry's 37-39 Henleaze 'A' (4-6).

ANOTHER DERBY DISAPPOINTMENT

Week 13 of the Triples League saw a local derby with Keynsham visiting Fry's. The visitors took the advantage with one rink winning heavily. Fry's put up some resistance on the other two rinks, however, Keynsham would grab a second rink ending Fry's hopes. The home side picked up 2 points winning one rink by 3 shots in a disappointing 40-60 loss. Scores: Rink 1: 9-26; Rink 2: 18-15; Rink 3: 13-19; Fry's 40-60 Keynsham (2-10).

REMARKABLE FINISH SEES FRY'S TAKE 10

Fry's welcomed Knowle 'A' Thursday night, the fourth game in 2 weeks between the two clubs, and a dramatic finish propelled Fry's up the table. The night always looked like a Fry's win, with rink 1 dominating the guests. The story was different elsewhere on the green, with rink 2 tight all the way, but Knowle pulled away on rink 3, leaving Fry's lead hovering around the 10 shot mark. With score looking like a 6-4 to Fry's, the points took a dramatic turn. Knowle went into the final end 1 shot up, but Fry's would pack the head, a good shot from the number 3 removed a Knowle bowl. With Knowle skip missing with both bowls, Fry's taking 4 shots and another 2 points. The biggest twist was on rink 3, with Fry's falling behind 11 shots with 3 ends left. Fry's closed the gap to 4 shots going into the last end. A poor end saw Fry's getting 5 bowls closest to the jack to complete a remarkable comeback, giving Fry's 10 points from the 61-36 win, moving them upto fifth in the table. Scores: Rink 1: 26-5; Rink 2: 16-13; Rink 3: 19-18; Frys 61-36 Knowle 'A' (10-0).

DERBY DISAPPOINTMENT IN TURNBULL

The first round of the Somerset Bowls Association Turnbull Cup Fry's make the short trip across the bypass to Keynsham. Rain was a feature of the night with the entire game played in the wet conditions. A rule change saw the game played over 18 ends rather than the traditional 21. Keynsham took the early lead, with rink 4 taking a 10 shot lead. Fry's had the better on rink 2 but Keynsham lead the other 2 rinks. Fry's would pull back on rink 4, eventually drawing level, which left Keynsham's lead hovering around 12 shots. Fry's were unable to make the ground up as Keynsham took a 66-54 win. Fry's know go into the Wedmore Plate. Scores: Rink 1: 24-13; Rink 2: 11-16; Rink 3: 6-17; Rink 4:13-20; Frys 54-66 Keynsham.

4 POINTS IN TRIPLES

The third game of the week against Knowle began the second half of the Friday Triples League, with Fry's looking to find the form they began the season with. Two rinks were able to come away with small wins, but with the third rink going down heavily, Knowle would take a 54-44 win with 4 points going to Fry's. Scores: Rink 1: 9-28; Rink 2: 17-12; Rink 3: 18-14; Fry's 44-54 Knowle (4-8).

REDLAND GREEN COMPLETE SEASON SWEEP OF FRY'S

The second half of the season start with a trip to leaders Redland Green. Fry's would give a good effort, keeping in touch to the halfway point. Redland Green would pull away on rink 3, which along with rink 1 keeping ahead would see Redland Green home. Rink 2 remained tight, but it would be Redland Green taking all 10 points, 57-31, with Fry's unable to get the necessary shots on the final end. Scores: Rink 1: 12-22; Rink 2: 9-13; Rink 3: 10-22; Fry's 31-57 Redland Green (0-10).

CLOSE ENCOUNTER AT KNOWLE

The second round of the Bristol and District League Lloyd Trophy saw Frys travel to Knowle in the second of 4 fixtures in 2 weeks with Knowle. The game would be much different to the previous night, with Fry's getting of to a much better start, with rink 2 quickly pulling away. The other 2 rinks remained close till the halfway point when Knowle pulled away on rink 1. The game would stay in the balance, coming down the final end with Fry's needing 5 off the last end to win. Once again this season, the final bowl to make the necessary shots was just wide. With only a single from the end, Knowle would hold on for a 45-42 win. Scores: Rink 1: 9-26; Rink 2: 21-8; Rink 3: 12-11; Fry's 42-45 Knowle.

KNOWLE HAMMER FRY'S IN CLARENCE

The first round of the City and County of Bristol Clarence Davey saw Fry's host Knowle. A mixed night would see disappointment as rink 1 and 3 were dominated by the visitors. Despite rinks 2 and 4 being much closer with Fry's winning both, it prove too much to overcome the deficit as Knowle romped away to a 104-56 win. Fry's will now meet Victoria Park away in the Plate on Monday 31st July. Scores: Rink 1: 8-31; Rink 2: 16-15; Rink 3: 13-42; Rink 4: 19-16; Fry's 56-104 Knowle.

PAGE PARK DOMINATE TRIPLES

The poor run in the Friday Triples League continued with the trip to Page Park. With a big win on one rink, and holding out for the win on another rink, Page Park would come away with 10 points as Fry's would only pick up 2 points by winning the third rink. Scores: Rink 1: 7-26; Rink 2: 17-12; Rink 3: 18-26; Fry's 44-67 Page Park (2-10).

POOR START COSTS FRY'S

A poor start and a comeback from Victoria Park would prove the difference in the closing match of the first half of the Bristol and District League. Despite a strong start by Fry's on rink 2, Victoria Park would take the advantage on rinks 1 and 3, giving the home side the advantage. The home side would strengthen that advantage as they began closing the gap on rink 2 leaving Fry's a lot to do. Rink 2 would eventually hold out to win, and with rink 3 able to find a groove, it gave Fry's a slim chance at the overall win. Despite a chance into the final end, Victoria Park did enough to make life difficult for Fry's, as they held out to win 50-44 with Fry's only picking up 2 points leaving them 6th at the halfway stage. Scores: Rink 1: 12-19; Rink 2: 21-15; Rink 3: 11-16; Fry's 44-50 Victoria Park (2-8).

SEVEN POINTS AT SEVERN VALE

Honours in shots were shared in the Triples League trip to Severn Vale, but Fry's would take home 7 points. With Fry's narrowly taking 2 rinks, Severn Vale took the third rink which would tie the scores at 50 a piece. Scores: Rink 1: 20-15; Rink 2: 17-15; Rink 3: 13-20; Fry's 50-50 Severn Vale (7-5).

FRYS RETURN TO WINNING WAYS

Ardagh were the latest visitors to Somerdale as the first half of the Bristol and District League nears a conclusion. Fry's started the brighter with rink 2 pulling away with some fine bowling. A very tight game on rink 1 ensured Fry's could stay ahead past the halfway point. Rink 3 was in the balance, but a lose end would let pull away and threaten a comeback. Frys would see this off taking the game with rinks 1 and 3 looking to secure points. Rink 3 were unable to find the 5 shots needed on their final end. Rink 1 had by now edged to 4 shot lead, finding themselves 4 shots down with 4 bowls left. Fry's were able to land second bowl securing 8 points from the 52-39 victory. Scores: Rink 1: 12-9; Rink 2: 23-11; Rink 3; 17-19; Fry's 52-39 Ardagh (8-2).

4 POINTS FROM ST ANNE'S VISIT

Fry's travelled to leaders St Anne's Park in the Friday Triples League. A close game on 2 rinks went the way of Fry's, however the home side would win the third rink comfortably which saw St Anne's Park take a 55-47 win leaving Fry's with 4 points. Scores: Rink 1: 19-18; Rink 2: 11-23; Rink 3: 17-15; Fry's 47-55 St Anne's Park (4-8).

DIFFICULT NIGHT AT SEVERN VALE COMES UP SHORT

Severn Vale 'A' were the hosts as Fry's looked to continue where they left off the previous. The game would not go to plan with Severn Vale 'A' taking the early lead, with rink 3 taking an 11 shot lead. Fry's were able to bring themselves back into the game, gradually closing the deficit. Rink 3 would come up 4 shots short, but a good comeback with the help of double take-out from Fry's skip on rink 2 saw them pick up 6 shots and would hold out for 2 points. A difficult night on rink 1 came down to Frys needing 6 to tie, but would come up short of the required shots as Severn Vale held on to a 53-51 win with Fry's only picking up 2 points. Scores: Rink 1: 14-17; Rink 2: 19-14; Rink 3: 18-22; Fry's 51-53 Severn Vale (2-8).

FRY'S SURVIVE LATE COMEBACK IN LLOYD TROPHY

The opening round of the Bristol and District League Lloyd Trophy saw Fry's welcome back Bradley Stoke. Once again, Fry's would get off to a flying start with rinks 2 and 3 helping Fry's to a good lead at the halfway stage with some strong bowling. Bradley Stoke would lead on rink 1, but were unable to build a big lead to counter the other 2 rinks. Fry's would hold a 20+ shot lead heading into the final ends, however, a poor couple of ends to finish on rink 3 would see Bradley Stoke almost half the gap with a small number of ends left. Fry's would take a 10+ shot lead into the final 2 ends. Rink 1 would seal the game with Fry's number 2 trailing the jack 2 feet back whilst 4 shots down, and with Bradley Stoke unable to remove the bowl, Fry's would take a 56-42 win to set up a second round matchup at Knowle on Tuesday 27th June. Scores: Rink 1: 10-16; Rink 2: 21-7; Rink 3: 25-19; Fry's 56-42 Bradley Stoke.

FRY'S MISS OUT BY 1

A thrilling Triples League game with Avonvale would end in disappointment for Fry's. A strong performance from one rink saw Fry's win by 19, however, the other 2 rinks would go to Avonvale, who edged out the home side in the overall match by a single shot, 52-51, leaving Fry's with just 2 points. Scores: Rink 1: 32-13; Rink 2: 9-22; Rink 3: 10-17; Fry's 51-52 Avonvale (2-10).

FRY'S DOMINATE BOTTOM OF TABLE CLASH

Fry's dominated a bottom of the table clash with the struggling Bradley Stoke. A fast start from rink 1 saw them put up 15 shots in the first 5 ends. The other 2 rinks would soon follow and enjoy healthy leads. Rink 3 saw a high quality game, but Fry's were able to stay well ahead. Fry's were able to repel any hopes of a Bradley Stoke comeback, running away to a 67-28 win taking all 10 points to see Fry's jump to 7th in the table. Scores: Rink 1: 24-11; Rink 2: 21-7; Rink 3: 22-10; Fry's 67-28 Bradley Stoke (10-0).

FRY'S MISS OUT IN CLOSE TRIPLES ENCOUNTER

A close Triples League game at Begbrook Green would end in disappointment for the visiting Fry's. On a quick green, Fry's only just missing out on 2 rinks, but with the third rink losing by 6, Begbrook Green took all 12 points from the 52-43 scoreline. Scores: Rink 1: 13-19; Rink 2: 14-16; Rink 3: 16-17; Fry's 43-52 Begbrook Green (0-12).

DISAPPOINTING END AT IMPERIAL

After a week off, Fry's returned to Bristol and District League action with a trip to Imperial's artifical surface. A slow start saw Imperial take a lead, but at the halfway stage, Frys remained in touch. Despite a tough start, Fry's pulled back the score on rink 1 leaving the game in the balance. Rink 3 was heading in Fry's direction, however a loose end and strong finish from Imperial saw them take the rink on the last end. Imperial held on to rink 1 leaving them 9 shots up with 2 ends left. A take out from Fry's saw them take 5 shots on penultimate end, but a poor finishing shot on Fry's final bowl saw Imperial take a 48-41 win with all 10 points leaving Fry's bottom. Scores: Rink 1: 12-16; Rink 2: 15-17; Rink 3: 14-15; Fry's 41-48 Imperial (0-10).

FIVE IN A ROW FOR TRIPLES

Another dominating performance in the Triples League saw Fry's cement second place in the table. Bristol visited Somerdale, but had little to match the home side. Fry's would come away with a 71-33 victory, taking all 3 rinks and a maximum 12 points, seeing them sit 5 points off St Anne's Park at the top of the table. Scores: Rink 1: 30-10; Rink 2: 23-12; Rink 3: 18-11; Fry's 71-33 Bristol (12-0).

CLOSE ENCOUNTER AT GREENBANK

Fry's picked up another win in the Triples League, but the visit to Greenbank proved closer than previous matches. Both clubs had big winning rinks, but with scores offset, it left the third rink to decide the game. This rink went to Fry's which saw them take 10 points from the 53-46 win. Scores: Rink 1: 21-14; Rink 2: 24-7; Rink 3: 8-25; Fry's 53-46 Greenbank (10-2).

FIRST WIN FOR FRYS

A strong night in the Bristol and District League saw them earn their first win of the season after welcoming Henleaze 'A' to Somerdale. Frys found their stride on the first dry evening of the season. Rinks 1 and 2 put in strong performances with both rinks scoring a winning 19 shots. Rink 3 was much closer, with Henleaze leading for most of the evening. Frys hung on, giving themselves a chance, but a close effort on the final bowl just missed the target, seeing Frys miss out on a 10 point maximum. 8 points were gained from the 51-34 win seeing Frys climb a little higher in the table heading into their off week. Scores: Rink 1: 19-11; Rink 2: 19-6; Rink 3: 13-17; Frys 51-34 Henleaze 'A' (8-2).

THREE IN A ROW FOR TRIPLES

A dominating performance from rink 1 saw Frys take their third triples league win in a row defeating Victoria Park (Bristol). With the rink winning by 16 shots, Frys were set up for victory. The other 2 rinks told a different story with both rinks decided by 2 shots. Honours were shared with each team taking a rink, giving Frys a 53-37 victory with 10 points to go to third in the table. Scores: Rink 1: 24-8; Rink 2: 13-15; Rink 3: 16-14; Frys 53-37 Victoria Park (Bristol) (10-2).

FIRST EVER MATCH FOR FRYS LADIES

Tuesday 2nd May was a historic day for Frys Bowling Club as the club had their first ever ladies match hosting Victoria Park. With 3 triples rinks, the day would be a successful one for Frys with all three rinks taking a win with Frys the overall winners 58-39. With further games to come later in the season, it's a promising start for Frys Bowling Club Ladies team. Scores: Rink 1: 19-15; Rink 2: 19-12; Rink 3: 19-12; Frys 58-39 Victoria Park.

FIRST POINT AFTER CHALLENGING NIGHT AT KNOWLE

Frys suffered a challenging night last Thursday in the Bristol and District League with their trip to Knowle 'A'. Suddenly being forced to play one player short and the intermittant showers, Frys took a while to settle into the game with Knowle taking a good lead early on. Rinks 1 and 3 were able to pull themselves back into the game, with rink 1 taking a small lead before Knowle closed the gap again. Rink 3 put themselves in position to grab the rink, however with the Frys skip just missing a narrow gap, Knowle would take the rink. With rink 2 a formality for the home side, rink 1 just about saved a count on the final end to tie the rink giving Frys the first point of season from the 50-34 loss. Scores: Rink 1: 14-14; Rink 2: 7-20; Rink 3: 13-16; Frys 34-50 Knowle 'A'.

BACK TO BACK FOR TRIPLES

Frys continued from where they left off in the Friday Triples League after welcoming Imperial to Somerdale. A convincing win on 2 rinks set Frys up for a big score. The third rink was a closer match, but it would be Frys taking the rink to record their first maximum 12 points from the 78-31 win. Scores: Rink 1: 25-6; Rink 2: 20-13; Rink 3: 33-12; Frys 78-31 Imperial.

DISAPPOINTING OPENING NIGHT

The Bristol and District League season commenced Thrusday night with Redland Green, who were relegated from Division 1 last season, visiting Somerdale. Conditions were tricky with the rain, and a close start saw Redland take a small lead. After halfway Redland were able to pull away on rinks 2 & 3 setting up the win. Rink 1 remained close, but Redland kept edging ahead. Despite Fry's close efforts, Redland would retain the lead to take 10 points, seeing Frys bottom after the first round of games. Scores: Rink 1: 8-13, Rink 2: 9-16; Rink 3: 14-19; Fry's 31-48 Redland Green (0-10).

MIXED START IN TRIPLES LEAGUE

The first two games of Fry's re-entry into the Friday Triples League saw a mixed start. The sceduled opening game against Knowle was postponed due to possible weather, meaning that the opening game was a visit to Keynsham. Frys struggled in the wet conditions, with Keynsham comfortably ahead in the game. Although one rink would be close, Keynsham were able to pull away in the final ends taking all 12 points.

The rearranged game with Knowle saw Fry's fair much better taking a 59-42 win with 10 points, with one rink just missing out preventing Frys taking all 12 points.
